In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Amil Ervin and his wife, Nell Ervin.
Mrs. Diehl was a former member of Waynesboro Church of Brethren where she was a Sunday School teacher and a Deacon. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Barren Ridge Church of Brethren where she was a Deacon. She worked at Southern Department Store for many years and later was a receptionist for Dr. William Orr. She was known for her cooking and being active in her children and grandchildren's lives.
She is survived by her husband, Garland Diehl; one daughter, Deborah Diehl Hawkins and her husband, Rick, of Waynesboro; one son, Steve Diehl and his wife, Brenda, of Stephens City; four grandchildren, Whitney and Ross Hawkins, and Austin and Nikki Diehl; two brothers, Hanley Ervin and his wife, Patrice, of Strasburg, and Allen Ervin and his wife, Sara, of McDowell; one sister-in-law, Annabelle Collins of Waynesboro; one brother-in-law, William Diehl of Waynesboro; and numerous other family members.
A private graveside service for family and relatives will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Galen Combs officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Waynesboro.
Active pallbearers will be Bobby Joe Kester, Ron Strickler, Larry Wade, Nelson Young, Gary Wingfield and Scott Hildebrand.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Barren Ridge Church of Brethren Seekers Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the building fund of Barren Ridge Church of Brethren, 1790 Barren Ridge Road, Staunton,VA 24401.
