Bette J. Gephart
Sept. 29, 1923 - July 6, 2011
MILLBURG - Bette's life began September 29, 1923, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. She spent her lifetime in the area where she worked for Heath Co, Auto Specialities, Montgomery Ward, and the Whitcomb Hotel. Bette worked at the Whitcomb Hotel as a young girl and while working there she met her Robert Gephart after going to the Tip Top Café just down the street. Not long after meeting Robert they married on July 20, 1941 in a Methodist Church in St. Joseph and then they made their home on a farm in Millburg. Bette enjoyed filling her spare time attending flea markets and garage sales, crocheting, mushroom hunting, and she was a self-taught organist. She loved cooking her German recipes and making her homemade rolled noodles. Bette enjoyed traveling whether it was to camp, or the cruise she took with her daughter, or the time she spent three weeks traveling Europe. Bette's greatest love was spending time with her family, which includes: her son Robert "Bob" Gephart Jr. of Millburg; her daughter Kathy Ruff of Mishawaka; a close family friend Marlin "Skip" Heckman of Mishawaka; a sister-in-law Mary M. Godfrey; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bette died Wednesday, July 6, at the Sanctuary at Holy Cross in South Bend, IN. Her loving husband Robert Gephart Sr, a daughter Diane Louise Gephart, a grandson Christopher J. Kollath, her parents William and Emily (Hemmerling) Reschke, a brother, and four sisters precede Bette in death. Friends may visit with Bette's family Sunday, July 10, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet, MI. Funeral services will be celebrated Monday, July 11, at 1:00 PM at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet. Burial will follow in Coloma Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Bette's memory to Center for Hospice Care in South Bend, IN or Berrien County Humane Society. Her Journey's Just Begun Don't think of her as gone away - her journey's just begun, life holds so many facts - this carth is only one. Just think of her as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort, where there are no days and years. Think how she must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched...For nothing loved is ever lost - And she was loved so much.
