Thomas J. Maney, 85, a longtime Stevens Point and Wausau resident and former executive at Sentry Insurance in Stevens Point, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, in Columbia, S.C., where he had been living the past year and a half.
Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery in Mosinee. Mr. Maney was born Aug. 20, 1917, in Seneca, a son of the late Thomas R. and Lillian I. Maney. He grew up in Lodi. He attended Loyola University in Chicago, Ill., and graduated from the Business College of Madison. He was married to Blanche Fobart for 60 years. She preceded him in death. He worked for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. in Wisconsin and Vermont. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
After service, he headed the Wausau office of the Veterans Administration, then joined Hardware Mutual Insurance (now Sentry Insurance) in 1953. He retired from Sentry in 1985 as a vice president and corporate secretary. He served as chairman of the Portage County Chapter of the American Red Cross in the 1950s. He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Wausau. Survivors include one son, Patrick (Elaine C.), Columbia, S.C.; one sister, Madeline Maney Maine, Milwaukee; one brother, Robert, Gulf Breeze, Fla.; and three grandsons. He was also preceded in death by one son, Tommy; and one brother, Jack.
