Sarah Campbell Vaughan was the dau of James Calloway Campbell and Jerusha Higginbotham and the granddaughter of William D. Campbell and Sarah Dillard Campbell and John Satterwhite Higginbotham and Martha Ricks Higginbotham. She was the wife of Alexander Wilks Vaughan who was the inventor of the engine that powered the Wright Bros. first successful flight at Kitty Hawk. Alexander is buried at the Vaughan Cemetery in Dewy Rose, GA. He was a plantation owner and a Civil War Veteran. He was wounded at Gettysburg.

Sarah and Alexander had four children: Early Calloway Vaughan, Zina Gibson Vaughan, Ella Wade Vaughan (Mitchell), and Pearl Jane Vaughan (Manning).
