Civil War
Lorenzo Dow Boatman, son of Lorenzo D. Boatman and his wife and first cousin, Sarah Boatman, was born in Indiana, but living in Arkansas when the War Between the States started. Lorenzo was one of five brothers, who enlisted to The Grand Army of the Republic, and only one, George, would survive.
Lorenzo entered the U.S. Army, in September 1863, at the age of seventeen, and served in Company C, 11th Regiment Missouri Volunteers. The records show that he deserted (was actually captured by the CSA) in 1864, and confined in Little Rock, where he died on 29 December 1864, age 18. His brother Perry also, at age 19.
