Johanna was born in Wrangelstrop, Kristianstaad, Sweden on 31 Jan 1871 (although her death certificate states New Jersey in 1868).She arrived in the US as a child with her parents and siblings, residing primarily in Minnesota. She lived in Washington where she met her first husband, John Slocum, and for a brief time in Marquette, Michigan. They moved to California after the birth of their son, Walter Leroy Slocum. She subsequently was divorced from John and remarried Fred Turnbull.Her son died in an auto accident only 6 days prior to her death.
