Alfred Hugo Teltschik, 90, passed away surrounded by his family. His loving wife of 63 years, Vermelle Teltschik, preceded him in death. Alfred is survived by his brother, Herbert; his four children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Alfred was born in Floresville, Texas into a family of musicians. His parents, Frank and Lenora Teltschik, started him with piano lessons at age 3. He moved to Houston and attended Reagan High School, where he met Vermelle. He served in the Air Force Band during World War II and after completing his service; he and his brother, Herbert, moved to New York to attend attended Julliard. Following their Town Hall debut, Alfred and Herbert began their career as duo-pianists for Columbia Artist Management performing over 1,000 concerts throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. After retiring from his concert career in 1967, Alfred and his two brothers, Herbert and Frank, taught piano to thousands of Houston area students in their Teltschik Music Studios located throughout Houston.

Concerned about the Houston education system, in 1970 Alfred and Vermelle founded a private fine arts school, Teltschik Academy, which is known today as Trafton Academy. In addition to teaching piano, Alfred also composed hundreds of songs for solo and duo-piano and was honored by the Texas Music Teachers Association in 1975 for his compositions. In 1977 Alfred and his family moved to the north part of Houston where he taught and assisted with development of the piano department at North Harris College. He continued to teach piano until only a few years before his death. His love of music will live forever in the hearts and fingers of so many.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Wayne Calder officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Oaks. Friends and family with gather following the interment at Memorial Oaks to celebrate his life. The family would like to say thank you to Odyssey Hospice.
