On a balmy afternoon, June 5, 1908, a little girl was born at 1801 McKinney Ave. to Marie Elise Bouche' and James Franklin Wood. She had curly blond hair and blue eyes. They named her Rosa Catherine for both grandmothers. The maternal grandmother was Rosa Durroux Bouche' and her paternal grandmother was Olive Catherine Cole Wood. Her father was a mounted police officer for the City of Houston and there is a picture of him hanging in the Police Museum in north Houston. He died when Rosa was 8 years old. Rosa was raised by her Mother Elise Bouche' Wood, Grandmere' Rosa Durroux Bouche', and her Aunt (Aunty) Marie Emily Bouche'. She graduated in the Commercial Class of 1924 of Incarnate Word Academy. After graduation she got a job as a Secretary with South Pacific Railroad. She joined their Southern Pacific Revue, a singing and dancing group, who performed in Houston and traveled to Harlingen & McAllen, TX. Rosa and her family enjoyed going to New Orleans on vacations to visit her Aunts, Uncles, & cousins. She enjoyed going to the towns and learning about her Bouche and Durroux ancestors. On April 21, 1933 Rosa's co-worker, at Southern Pacific, arranged a date for Bob Sullivan to take Rosa to an office party at Herman Park and go horseback riding. It was exactly 7 months later that Bob & Rosa married on Nov. 21, 1933 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. Bob Sullivan was the son of Charles Sullivan and Catherine Wickens of De Queen, Arkansas. Many of Rosa's New Orleans relatives came to their wedding including her 1st cousin, Louis Lassus, Jr., who gave her away in marriage. To this union 4 children were born: Charles (Pat), Robert (Bob}, Elise, and Colleen. Rosa was always involved in all of her children's school and outside activities. She had given 45 years of dedicated service to the DCCW and was appointed Corresponding Secretary for many years. She loved all her grandchildren, Cathy, Frank, John, Jim, DeDe, Shelly, Robert, & Bernadette, and was so thrilled when she became a, "G. G.", great-grandmother. She was proud to tell everyone that she was a Native Houstonian. Rosa died May 1, 1996 and is laid to rest besides her husband Bob at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, Houston, TX.

This is my Grandmother. She lived near Bellaire and was very sweet. She loved to cook and had many, many plates on the walls of her kitchen. Each plate was from a different state. Her deviled eggs were always delicious! She was always a good person. Deborah "DeDe" Sullivan
