Services will be held for John A. Bonar at 3 p.m. Sept. 14 at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville. Pastor Fred Dyer of Trinity Baptist Church in Douglas will be officiating.
Mr. Bonar, 88, died Sept. 10, 2006, at Garden Square Assisted Living Center in Casper.
He was born March 30, 1918, to Fred and Clara(Flewling)Bonar in Sacramento, Calif., where he attended school before enlisting in the Army to go serve in Germany during World War II.
Mr. Bonar married Hazel Larane Thomas on May 3, 1947, in Yosemite National Park. Following his discharge from the Army, they moved to Glenrock, where they resided for 59 years.
He worked for Continental Oil Refinery in Glenrock until its closure, then at the Texaco Refinery in Casper until his retirement.
Mr. Bonar was a member of the Odd Fellows, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Wyoming Writers Guild. His hobbies were reading and writing about history. He was honored as a volunteer by the town of Glenrock in 2005 and also served as the Deer Creek Days Parade Marshal.
Survivors include his wife Hazel; daughters Virginia Richards and husband Harry of Douglas and Lorraine Barber of Douglas; son John Nye and wife Amanda of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two nieces and one nephew.
