Gene was born on September 27, 1935 to Roy A "Buddy" Long and Lillie Belle Stevens Long in Greenville, Texas. Roy and Lillie divorced and Lillie remarried James O. Colvin. He adopted Lillie's 2 sons, Gene Michael and Glen Charles "Chuck".

Gene was married twice. First to Joann Hillary Priest and second to Willene Wilson. Gene left this earth to be with our Lord and Savior on November 27, 2009. Gene has 3 sons, Richard, Robbin and Randall. He loved sports and hunting. He was a man to be proud of in every way. He lived as he believed. He loved the Lord and his family and is most likely out playing football with Jesus now in his new body. May he always rest in the Peace of our Savior that passes all understanding.

Augusta, GA – Mr. Gene M. Colvin, 74, husband of Willene Colvin for 27 years, entered into rest on Friday, November 27, 2009. He was born in Greenville, TX. Mr. Colvin graduated from Abilene High School, Abilene, TX. He entered the USAF in 1956 and retired in 1976. He graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio and began a teaching/coaching career in the San Antonio Independent School District. Mr. Colvin's coaching career included football, basketball, and track. After moving to Augusta, GA, Mr. Colvin began teaching for Richmond County School District where he retired in 2008. Mr. Colvin was also a member of a Masonic Lodge here locally.

Mr. Colvin was deeply committed to animal rescue here in the CSRA area for a number of years. He became the Vice President of Save The Animals Rescue Society, Inc. (STARS) in 2003. He was part of an organization that has rescued hundreds of animals. He loved nature and loved being in the outdoors. Mr. Colvin has been a member of a Baptist church wherever he has lived during his Air Force and teaching careers.

Mr. Colvin was preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Joann Colvin and his parents. He is survived by his wife Willene Colvin, of Augusta, GA, children, Richard Colvin, Robbin Colvin, Randall Colvin, Mary Vasquez, Jeff Crowley, Wesley Crowley II, grandchildren, Jennifer, Hillary, Joseph, Amanda, Ashley C., Angela, Katherine, Michael, Rebecca, Aubrey, Brandon, Shannon, Ashley V., Samantha, Sabrina, and 11 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 2, 2009 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Platt's Funeral Home, 721 Crawford Ave. Augusta, GA.

Mr. Colvin will be accorded a military funeral with burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX. on Monday, December 7, 2009 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends in San Antonio, TX. on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home on Austin Highway, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Colvin and the family request that memorials be made to continue the rescue efforts he loved being a part of. Memorials should be made to Save The Animals Rescue Society, Inc., P.O. Box 212136, Augusta, GA 30907
