FANNIE BELL HANEY, age 20, married IRENE "JACK" NEWMAN. They farmed for 12 years on the Golden Drain Creek. During World War II, Jack went to Houston, Texas where he became a ship painter in the shipyards, and also as a guard at the Dixon Gun Plant. Fannie Bell stayed on the farm taking care of the animals and children. Once a month, Fannie Bell would catch a bus to Houston to pick up the money from Jack's paycheck. After the war, Jack & Fannie Belle bought 66 acres at Holly Springs.
