Mr. Cossey was the son of John A. and Freddie Eldonia (Glenn) Cossey.

He was the grandson of William Henry Cossey, 1826 – 1899, and Matilda (Milligan) Cossey, 1830 – 1887, and Mrs. Samaria Glenn.

In 1930, the Federal Census shows his widowed mother, age 46, as living in Hobart, Kiowa Co., OK, with her 4 children: John, Jr. aka "Okla John" Cossey, age 23, a garage mechanic; Kermit, age 21; Doris, age 18 and Carlton, age 11. Also living in the household was Freddie's mother, Samaria Glenn, age 75, a widow, b in MO.
