Silas Cole Strait or Straight was born in 1802 in the Morris County area of New Jersey. History of Morris Co, NJ states he was the son of Christian and Rhoda (Cole ?)Strait. At some point in his early life, Silas and other members of his family, left New Jersey and settled in Franklin Co and later the Muskingum Co in OH where on Oct 17, 1821 Silas Strait married Sarah Ann Attwood. They resided in that area until between 1850 and 1860 they migrated to the Waterloo OH area which is on the border of Gallia and Lawrence counties. Silas Strait died between 1860-1870 as his wife, Sarah, was living in Lawrence Co with her son Lewis, and she was listed as a widow. She lived until sometime after 1880. The death and place of burial for Silas C and Sarah Stait are unknown but are most likely in the Waterloo area. They were the parents of eight known children:
