Juliette Frances Walker Sanders, 91, died on March 16, 2008 at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury in Irvington, VA. She was born on April 22, 1916, daughter of Mattye Tillar Walker and Lewis Gordon Walker. Frances was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Wellford Lorraine Sanders in 1997. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Frances Sanders Davis and her husband Clyde; Wellford Lorraine Sanders, Jr., and his wife Ann; and Charles Lewis Sanders and his wife Susan. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Bryan Sanders Davis, Clay Walker Davis, Ann Lorraine Sanders and her husband Brian Grabowski, Wellford Lorraine Sanders, III, Charles Mason Sanders, Mark Randolph Sanders; and Mary Louise Stuart Sanders. Frances' one surviving sister, Elizabeth Walker Bagby, lives in Easton, MD.
She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, Richmond, VA and attended Mary Baldwin College and Pan American Business School. Her many community activities included that of Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout leader and work with IVNA, the Clothes Rack and the Cerebral Palsy Center. She particularly enjoyed work with young children and taught at the PSCE Demonstration Kindergarten and at the Ginter Park Churches Preschool Centers. In addition to her leadership as a preschool Sunday School teacher at Ginter Park Presbyterian Church, she served in many of the church's other ministries during her years in Richmond.
After moving to Kilmarnock, VA in 1976, Frances became a charter member of St. Andrews Presbyterian, Church, volunteering in many church and community activities such as Meals on Wheels, Northern Neck Hospice, and Historic Christ Church.
A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Kilmarnock, VA at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 20. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 21 at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 435 East Church St., Kilmarnock, VA, 22482 or to the Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury Foundation, 132 Lancaster Drive, Irvington, VA, 22480.
