Born with a given name of Rebecca Gurrola Sanchez in October 1930 in the defunct coal mining town of Gibson, McKinley, New Mexico. When her older sister Raquel Sanchez died from injuries sustained in a fall on 29 November 1930, Rebecca was given the name or Raquel (Rachel) by her parents which is the name she continued to go by the rest of her life.

Raquel "Rachel" Rebecca Gurrola Sanchez married Arthur Cravioto Garcia at La Soledad (Our Lady of Solitude) Church in Los Angeles, California on November 26th, 1950. They lived in La Puente, California from mid 1955 until Arthur's death in 1960. Rachel and the two children moved to Montebello, California after Arthur's death.

When her husband Arthur Cravioto Garcia died suddenly of pneumonia in January 1960, Rachel took a job in a medical office in Montebello, California to support herself and her two children.

Rachel married Darrell Duane "Pete" Peterson on November 13th, 1964 at the Lorelei Chapel in Montebello, California. During their marriage they resided in Los Angeles, Orange, San Mateo, and San Diego counties

After the 1982 Summer Olympic games in Los Angeles, California where the company Darrell "Pete" Peterson worked for (OOH LA LA) designed the pins for the games, Darrell and Rachel founded and were officers of a new company in San Diego, California (Peter David Inc., maker of sports memorabilia pins). The name of the business was the combination of the names of her husband Darrell Duane "Pete" Peterson and grandson David Duane Garcia (son of Arthur Emilio and Desiree Gaye Dwyer Garcia). When Rachel's second husband (Darrell Duane Peterson) died in September 1986 she took over control of the family business which she ran until October 1991 when she sold the business to her son (Arthur Emilio Garcia). Rachel continued as a consultant to the business until her death in December 2004.

Between October 1994 and December 1995 Rachel was a business partner in a business named "Flowers Extraordinaire" located at 310 Third Ave., Chula Vista, California.

Rachel is survived by a son (Arthur Emilio Garcia) , a daughter (Linda Jeanne Garcia Triolo Schorer), five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two sisters, and four brothers.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and three brothers.
