Robert Andrew Champ,53,a carpenter's helper was found dead in his station wagon early Tuesday morning in Rockville, MD. Death was reportedly was caused by suffocation from inhaling exhaust fumes in the auto.
Mr. Champ was employed in the area.
He was born March 21,1916 at Cabins and was the son of the late Grover and Sadie(VanMeter)Champ. He was a World War II
Veteran.
Surviving are two daughters, Diana Sue and Geneva Darlene Champ, both of Petersburg, WV,; five sons William Andrew, Roger Allen, Larry Wayne, and Michael Allen Champ, all of Petersburg, WV and Steven Richard Champ of the U.S. Army in Germany; his first wife Rosalie Catherine Champ- Thorne and his second wife Shirley Jean Pennington ,;four sisters, Mrs. Wesley Hartman of Cresaptown, MD, Mrs. Stephen Humes of Baltimore, MD, Mrs. Floyd Thorp of Front Royal, VA, and Mrs. Edward Shirk of Cabins, and six brothers, John Henry Champ of Baltimore, MD, Eston Champ of Cumberland, MD, William Lee Champ of Frostburg, MD, Lonzie Champ of Edgewood MD, Coy Champ of Upper Tract, WV, and Ottis Champ of Edgemere, MD.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant son Robert Andrew Champ Jr on 10/23/1947. The funeral was conducted at 11am, Saturday at the Brown Funeral Home by Elders W. Glenn Sponaugle and Garry L. Simmons. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg, WV
