It was just by coincidence that I found his listing here on Find A Grave and hope one day that I can turn it over to his family.
He is listed at the Los Angeles Fire Department Historical Society as "Captain Bob Phelps" assigned to Fire Station 19-B. Appointed 7-4-76.
Bob and his wife were my landlords when I moved to San Pedro. I only knew them for a couple of years but they were a wonderful family.
Bob was always smiling and laughing. He was one of those people that you felt you'd known forever. He was well known and loved by all.
He was a firefighter. I remember Bob volunteering for the fires in the L.A. riots.
Shortly thereafter, he was diagnosed with Cancer. I was not able to attend his funeral but, our neighbor said that they had never seen so many people gather in memory of one so loved.
I would like to thank Warren and Cheri for volunteering their time to add the beautiful photos for Bobs memorial. You are indeed Earth Angels.
