Mervin was born December 31, 1926 in Columbus, KS the son of Harry L. and Effie E. (Griffin) Dill. He was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Columbus Schools.
On September 9, 1947 he married Leta J. Winkler in Columbus, KS; she preceded him in death on July 16, 2010. He was a veteran of the Army serving in WWII in the Japan Theater.
He worked as garage mechanic, projectionist for Liberty Theater, and a machinist for Sperry Vickers in Joplin, MO for 37 years.
He also belonged to the VFW, American Legion, a member of the First Baptist Church, served as Deacon, Trustee, Music Director, Song Leader and other positions.
Survivors include his children J.B. Dill and wife Dianne of Anderson, MO, Lt. Col. (Retired) David Dill and wife Patty of Maysville, MO, Rev. Steve Dill and wife Libby of Cleburne, TX, Melissa (Dill) Behnke and husband Lt. Col. (Retired) Tom Behnke of England; 6 grandchildren;
9 great-grandchildren; a twin brother Ervin Dill of Columbus, KS; sisters Marvella Ricketts of Haysville, KS, Edna May Robinson of Joplin, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Fontenella Niggemann, Berea McMullen, brothers Harrison Dill, and Calvin Dill.
Funeral Services will be 10am Saturday June 25, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Columbus, KS with Pastor Warren Stanton officiating.
Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Columbus, KS. Family will receive friends from 6-7pm Friday June 24, 2011 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus, KS.
Friends may call the funeral home after 12pm
on Friday. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the First Baptist Church.
