Carmen Silva-Louella Abney, 93, passed away June 17, 2011 in Independence, MO. She was born July 27, 1917 in Michigan to Richard Thomas and Anna Timmons Huffman. She is survived by her son, Orville Richard (Rick) Abney and wife Sherry, Blue Springs; daughter, Diana Shaw and husband Don, Liberty; sister, Alice Ann Huffman, Mt. Vernon, MO; eight grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. Along with her parents and four brothers, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Orville Ray Abney. Orville and Carmen were married March 4, 1940 in Van Wert, Ohio. They moved to Missouri in 1949 and lived in Independence for several years, then lived at Lake Lotawana for 30 years before moving to Blue Springs. Carmen and Orville were members of the Colbern Road Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ, Lake Lotawana, where they were very active. Carmen was a professional musician. She sang in the Cleveland Opera in Ohio before moving to Missouri, at which time she sang in numerous concerts and churches throughout the area. She was a voice instructor until she retired in 1990. Carmen also held a real estate license for several years and taught home economics in the 4-H program. Visitation will be held from 7-8:30 pm Tuesday, June 21, at the Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at 291 Highway, Liberty.
