PELHAM, NH -- Robert P. Fitzgerald, of Pelham, NH, and formerly of Barefoot Bay, Florida, and Billerica Mass., died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH, after a period of declining health. He was 84.

He was born in Cambridge, Mass., son of the late Julia (O'Leary) and Maurice P. Fitzgerald.

He was the beloved husband of the late Charlotte L. (Snow) Fitzgerald with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Mr. Fitzgerald was a veteran of the Army, serving in World War II in the 342nd Infantry under the 86th Black Hawk Division.

He was a member of the VFW and served as Treasurer for many years of Barefoot Bay Post #4225.

He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

He was a communicant of St. Theresa Church in Billerica, St. Luke Church of Barefoot Bay, Florida, and most recently, St Patrick Church of Pelham, NH.

Before retirement, Mr. Fitzgerald worked for the United Carr Fasteners Company.

He enjoyed reading, bird watching, and all Boston sports teams. He loved the time spent in Florida with his wife and friends and spoke of it often.

Mr. Fitzgerald was most proud of his family and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Fitzgerald was survived by his son, David Fitzgerald of Neenah, Wisconsin; his daughters, Joyce Hamlin and her husband, Mark of Lowell, Mass., Patricia Fraize and her husband, Tim of Pelham, NH, Julie Jones and Michael of Pelham, NH. Grandchildren include, Amy Scalera of No. Andover, Mass., David Scalera and wife, Heather of Nashua, NH, Kate Graham and husband, Marc of Merrimack, NH, Joshua Fraize and Julie Wrobel of Nashua, NH, Caitlin Jones and Lindsey Jones of Pelham, NH. Great-grandchildren include, Nicholas and Megan Scalera of Nashua, NH, Joseph Martellucci of North Andover, and Ella Graham of Merrimack, NH.

He also kept in touch with a plethora of friends through the years, most notably Commie "Red" Lawson of whom they grew up together on Crescent Street in Cambridge, Mass.

Mr. Fitzgerald will be known for his humor and for saying "See you around the neighborhood" when he parted ways.

FITZGERALD -- Cremation arrangements made by Phaneuf Funeral Home of Manchester, NH with cooperation by East Coast Cremation of Palm Bay, Florida. A Mass to celebrate his life will take place at 11:00 am on June 30, 2011 at St. Patrick Church in Pelham, NH. Interment will take place at a later time at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, where he will be laid to rest with his wife.
