Arriving in Vietnam Walter was assigned to H&S Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.
Hostile forces launched a ground assault against the Nong Son Outpost and Walter died as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds to the head, upper extremities and traumatic amputation of his left arm above the elbow from hostile mortar fire.
Survived by his parents, Walter G and Mary E W Buschleiter and his brother, Gerald K Buschleiter of 25425 Arlington St, Roseville, Michigan
and two brothers; Robert G and Fred A Buschleiter of Michigan.
