James N. Swope, 77, of Soddy Daisy, TN passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011. He was a graduate of Red Bank High School. Jim was, first and foremost, a soldier. He served over 20 years in the U. S. Army, with Special Forces. Jim was a well-known and respected communications and electronics innovator and instructor, serving two tours of duty training Special Forces radio operators. He retired from the Army as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3). He was the recipient of numerous military decorations, including the Master Parachutist Badge. Following his retirement from the Army, Jim began a second very successful career as an Instructor of Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology at Chattanooga State Community College.


Survivors include brother, Frank M. (Barbara) Swope of La Vergne, TN; stepdaughter Rhonda C (Alvin F) Hagermaker of Rockwood, TN.


Funeral (including Masonic) services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.


Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, TN.
