He served as a military policeman in the National Guard; was a member of the Protestant faith; served on the Salisbury Senior Housing board; and volunteered at the Senior Center in Salisbury. He was a lifelong area resident and had worked as a maintenance supervisor for Associated Electric at the Thomas Hill Power Plant for 27 years before retiring in 1995.
