Private. 428666. Thomas Ross Hume.
Thomas enlisted at New Westminster, BC., March 19th, 1915. He listed his occupation as "Clerk." He also stated that he had served 3 years in the Lincolnshire Regiment in England before coming to Canada. (See attached enlistment papers). Thomas served with the 7th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, during the First World War. He saw action in France & Flanders where he was wounded on July 3rd, 1917, in the left hand causing the loss of his index finger. It was in a military hospital in England, that Thomas met Lieutenant Nursing Sister Kathryn Ryan. At the end of the war Thomas & Kathryn married on November 11th, 1919. The couple moved to British Columbia, Canada, where they had two sons: Thomas, Jr. and Edward. Thomas was a resident of Crescent Beach and died at Shaughnessy Hospital on October 4th, 1964. He was buried in the Surrey Center Cemetery by the Royal Canadian Legion. ( Info: Herbert Ricakrds, AC & BB.)
