Melvin L. Hiller of Seaford, DE, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, in his home. He was 77.

Mr. Hiller was born Nov. 13, 1929, in Long View, Wash., son of the late George and Flora Lee Hiller. Mr. Hiller graduated from Corvallis, Ore., High School and in 1953 from the Naval Academy where he was named an All-American in fencing. He served as a lieutenant junior grade in the Navy and was commanding officer of the USS Falcon.

He had many good memories and was very proud of his Navy days. He continued to live in Annapolis and worked for 42 years with Westinghouse and then Northrup Grumman as a project manager in the Oceanic Division when he retired in 1999.

In 2004, Mr. Hiller moved to Seaford with his wife. His interests included his pet dogs and sports, particularly Navy football. . Mr. Hiller was a quiet, stay-at-home type of man.

He loved being around his family, especially his grandchildren. He raised two of his grandsons.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Norma Jeanne Sullivan Hiller; and several children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services and burial will be private. The family requests that no flowers be sent. Arrangements by Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood, DE.
