Andrew J. Gibbs, 84, of Lexington, Kentucky, husband of Sara Pearl Jamison Gibbs, died Saturday, January 11th, 2003 at the Veterans Medical Center, Leestown Road.

Mr. Gibbs was born in Shelby County, Kentucky, the son of the late Curtis and Newell (Darlington) Gibbs. He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Gibbs Easton and a niece, Lynn Druin. He was a nephew of the late Bishop U.V.W. Darlington of the Kentucky Conference. He graduated from Henry Clay High, Shelby County, Kentucky in 1936 and was an active member of the Alumni Association. He attended Kentucky Wesleyan College in Winchester. He served in World War II for three years, as a Master Sergeant, in
the South Pacific. He was a retired contract carrier for the Courier Journal Newspaper for 45 years. He also served as security guard for Brock McVey for eight years. Mr. Gibbs was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church where he was an honorary member of the administrative board.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, additional survivors include two sister-in-laws, Virginia Jamison Winsor of Lexington, Kentucky and Joyce Jamison Green (Robert Green Sr.) of Shelby County, Kentucky; four nieces, Judy Stephansky, Kathleen (Paul) Sullivan, Sharon Martin, Rita (Keith) Hall; four nephews, Robert Easton, Larry (Jayne) Morris, Bruce (Linda) Green and Robert (Beth) Green, Jr. Serving as casket bearers will be Larry Morris, Casey Martin, Chris Martin, Earl Redmon, Ronnie Hayes and Paul Sullivan. Honorary casket bearers will be Mr. and Mrs. Robert English, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Tunstill, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bowman, Carroll Arnold, Steve Ales and John McDonald III.

Services will be held on Tuesday 1:00 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church with Rev. Wes Olds, Dr. Harold Dorsey and Dr. David Hunter officiating. Mr. Gibbs body will lie in state from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Burial will be in the Lexington Cemetery.
