He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence in 1952. He was confined to a wheelchair and then a scooter due to childhood polio, but still lived a full life. He played guitar, was a storm watcher for emergency preparedness, a dispatcher for the Lawrence Police Dept & Dunbar & was a dispatcher & plant manager for Lawrence Ready Mix. He was a greeter at Lawrence's original Hy-Vee Store, where his gregarious personality made him a local celebrity, gaining local media attention. This prompted other retailers to hire greeters.
He married Wanda Jean Channel, who died 3/2/1996. Survivors include 3 sons; Terry Drennon, Dean Drennon & Art Rockhold, 2 daughters; Rosie Hicks & Tina Smith, a brother, Paul, a sister, Rosie Hodge, 5 grandchildren & 2 great-grandchildren.
Services were at 10am, Sat., 1/11/2003 at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. Cremation followed the service.
