Rev. Boyd was married three times. On August 14th 1857, to Miss Elizabeth Jane "Lizzie" Pressly, daughter of Rev. Ebenezer E. Pressly, D. D., of Due West, South Carolina; who soon died; leaving him one daughter, Mary Francis (1858–1912).
His second marriage was in November 1861 to Miss Margaret Frances McClintock, daughter of John and Mary McClintock, by whom he had seven children:

Laurence Eugene (1868-1873)
James Ebenezer (1870-1931)
Johnnie McClintock (1873-1876)
Infant Son (1876-1876)
After Margaret Frances died in the spring of 1881, Rev. Boyd married Miss Lavinia Pressly, daughter of Richard and Mary Barron Pressly, who survived him; no children where born to this union.
In 1890, Rev. Boyd resigned the charge that he had so long served and went to Iredell County, North Carolina; where he was soon installed over the congregation of New Sterling A.R.P.
