Dennis C. Rice,
78, retired Chief of Corrective Therapy at the V.A. Hospital in Marion, IN, and husband of Caroline Smith Rice, died Tuesday, January 28, 2003. Born in Beckley, WV, he was a son of the late Ancil Gilderoy and Sadie Harper Rice. He received a Master's Degree in Sports Medicine from the University of Kentucky, played football for Paul "Bear" Bryant, was a member of Broadway Christian Church, and the Elks. He was also a Marine veteran of WW II. In addition to his wife, he survived by three sons, Dennis "Denny" (Debbie) Rice, Lexington, Louis "Lou" (Betsy) Rice, Marion, IN, Edward "Ned" (Sharon) Rice, Massillon, OH; a brother and sister, Robert Rice, Beckley, WV, and Sadie Pratt, Huntsville, AL; eleven grandchildren, Jeremy, Laura, and Dennis C. Rice, III, all of Lexington, Matt, Brittany and Kelsie Rice, all of Massillon, OH, Daniel and Brian Davis, Fred Burge, Kirk Gausepohl, all of Lexington, and Anne Margaret Weishaar, Tequesta, FL; two great grandchildren, Caroline and Nick Weishaar. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Monday at W.R. Milward Mortuary-Southland conducted by Rev. Jim Bird. Burial will follow at the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-5 PM Sunday. Memorials may be made to Broadway Christian Church or the American Heart Association.
