Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at
Greenmount Cemetery for Walter Frank
Smith, a retired U.S. Army officer, who died
Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, in Durango. He
was 79.
The Rev. Dan Straw will officiate at
services. Burial will be at Greenmount
Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born Jan. 17, 1920, in White
River, S.D. He married Ruth Miller, who
preceded him in death.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during
World War II and the Korean War. He was
stationed in Alaska. He lived in Arizona for
25 years, where he worked as a heavy duty
welder. He retired in Durango in 1986. He
was a member of the Elks Lodge.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda
Willmett of Durango; two grandsons, and
three granddaughters.
