A 53-year-old Fall River man who was severely burned when he fell into a camp fire near Dave's Beach last month died Monday in a Boston hospital.

Leonard K. Campos of 41 Hargraves St. fell into a smoldering camp fire in an area off lower Brayton Avenue, shortly after midnight, Aug. 23. A witness told police that the victim lifted himself from his seat and fell into the fire that contained burning embers. His clothing immediately caught on fire, the witness said.

Campos was initially taken to St. Anne's Hospital. A short time later he was transported by helicopter to the burn center at Massachusetts General Hospital. Born in this city, a son of the late Manuel and the late Mary (Almeida) Campina, he was an Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict. He had been employed by the former Korber Hat Manufacturing Co.

Surviving him are two brothers, Alfred Campos of Greenfield, Wis., and Thomas Campos of this city; three nieces and two nephews. Oliveira Funerla Home, 215 Columbia St, is in charge of arrangements.
