Francis D. Cummings, 3600 Wellington, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was 76.

A vigil service will be held this evening, 7 p.m. in the chapel of the Trout Funeral Home with the Rev. John Michalicka, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michalicka as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery under the direction of the Trout Funeral
Home. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army, Fort Sill.

Born Nov. 1, 1923, at El Reno, he was the son of Noel Buford Cummings and Agnes Gruber Cummings. He began his schooling in El Reno before moving to Ponca City with his family where he graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1942.

During World War II, Francis joined the U.S. Army and served in Normandy, northern France, the Rhineland, and in central Europe. He was awarded the EAME Campaign Medal with four
bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and four Overseas service bars.

Following his honorable discharge, he began working for Railway Express. In 1950, he joined Conoco where he was employed in the refinery as a pumper and gauger until his retirement in 1985.

He and the former Wanda Knight were married June 11, 1949, at St. Mary's Church.

Francis was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the American Legion, VFW, Primetimers and the Heritage Club. He enjoyed gardening, working on cars, and listening to Cardinal baseball on the radio. Together with his wife he had traveled extensively throughout the United States and the world.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda, of the home; three sons, Stephen C. Cummings of Dallas, David S. Cummings of Ponca City, and Kurt T. Cummings of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; two daughters, Ann L. Perryman of Piedmont, and Janet M. Schmitz, Broken Arrow; eight grandchildren, Jenny Perryman, Rachel Perryman, Cassandra Cummings, Elizabeth Cummings, Adam Schmitz, Brandon Schmitz, Cameron Schmitz, and Kyle Cummings; four brothers, James Cummings of Blue Springs, Mo., Robert Cummings of Belton, Mo., Donald Cummings of Raton, N.M., and Charles Cummings of Kansas City, Mo; and five sisters, Jeannette Wilber of Riverside, Calif., Doris Ritterman of Baltimore, Md., Rita Henry of Grandview, Mo., Carolee Sowell of Mt. Clemens, Mich., and Donna McGarry of Auburn, Ga.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Thomas Cummings.

Casket bearers will be Phillip Perryman, Paul Schmitz, Merle Combest, William Brown, Verner Swenson and Les Chell.

Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 N.E. 13th, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73104.

The family will be at the home, 3600 Wellington.
