Rob was in his element when he was teaching un-initiated people how to travel. He offered the common Joe some unusual and exquisite experiences in Europe in the way of golf and wine tours. He was also a born comedian who could entertain a transport full of people with ease. He was where he belonged in the world, or so it seemed to his hundreds of world wide friends. Terrorism cut into his tour business, however, and his company began to falter.
The loss of Rob has been especially painful, because he inexplicably took his own life. It broke our hearts, because it seemed Rob had become so emeshed with his work that when the business started to fail Rob considered that it was he who had failed. Nothing could have been farther from the truth.
We are so sorry that one who could so often give perfect directions lost his own way in one irretrievable dark moment. Perhaps the most consoling words came from a colleague of Rob's at his memorial in Portland. "Think about his curiosity about life, a hunger and a passion for the world, an example of a life whose riches owed little to money, a sense that anything is possible."
Rob's core accomplishment, as he often stated, was having his wonderful son, Spencer. Survivors include his son Spencer, his fiance' Vivien (Paris, France), his two sisters Judy and Jane, his brother David and his former wife, MJ.
