Carl S. Long, 55, of Charlottesville, Va., died Monday, May 2, 2011, in a local hospital. Born in Middletown, Ohio, on May 18, 1955, he was the son of the late Carl Sidney Long and Jereline Dennis Long. Mr. Long was a test engineer with Universal Test Equipment. He was an avid golfer and was a former member of Sleepy Hollow Golf Club in Hurricane, W.Va. He was a graduate of St. Albans High School, St. Albans, W.Va., attended Marshall University on a golf scholarship and was a graduate of United Electronic Institute. Carl was greatly loved and will be missed by his wife of 28 years, Amy C. Long; and his daughter, Audra Long, both of Charlottesville; his son, Jeremy Long of Virginia Commonwealth University; a brother, Brian Long and Susan Vitale of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Beverly Milton of Ohio and Melody McGraw of Illinois, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry D. Conner and Martha Fauber Conner; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at Maple Grove Christian Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
