Former middle-weight boxer (fought under the name "Billy Ryan") and bodyguard to Jean Harlow. Married Hollywood starlet Gloria Dickson May, 1944 in Acapulco.

Received a five-year sentence in 1955 for writing a $30 bad check in Omaha. Died of disease while incarcerated in 1958.
