He was born June 6, 1940 in Mexia, Limestone County, Tx. Ray graduated from Pasadena High School in 1958. Although he was handicapped because of childhood polio, he began working at the Pasadena Bowling Alley at a young age and joined the Pasadena Bowling Association at age 16 and was a life member. He married Agnes Winona Hemmi about 1965 and had one daughter, Cheryl Renee born in 1966. Ray was a metallurgist for more than 30 years with Dee Foundaries. He died January 6, 2011 after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Terri Palmer and his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Andrew Oldweiler, and brother, sister-in-law and nephew, Robert, Ruth and Wesley Palmer. Ray leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Ray graduated from St. Pius V grade school in 1954 and Pasadena High School in 1958. As a teenager he realized his passion and gift for bowling. He began working at the bowling alley at a young age. He joined the Pasadena Bowling Assoc. at age 16 and was a life member of the organization. He was involved with the organization in many capacities, including organizing the Pasadena Junior Bowling Assoc., coaching junior bowlers, serving on the Board for 11 years and as a member of 5 City Championship teams. Ray was inducted into the Pasadena Bowling Hall of Fame on Feb. 18, 1995. His bio when inducted ended with: "PEOPLE THAT KNEW HIM ARE STILL IN AGREEMENT THAT IF THEY HAD TO CHOOSE ONE PERSON AS A FRIEND RAY WOULD BE THAT PERSON."
Ray spent his career as a metallurgist and for more than the last 30 years was with Dee Foundries. In 1977, Ray and Terri opened up Palmer Family Tree Greenhouse and Palmer Orchids. They enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. doing orchid shows.
Ray had a passion for many things including: family and friends, animals, traveling, bowling, and plants. He always had a smile and a joke for everyone and graced us all with a contagious laugh.
Services are: Visitation Sun. Jan. 9, 2011 2-5pm at Forestpark Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale. Rosary at 5 pm. Funeral Service: Mon., Jan. 10, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Pius V Catholic Church, Pasadena. A reception will follow at St. Pius V Cafeteria from ~ 1-3 pm.
