"Mr. John Sam Hammer, prominent Barren county farmer, died at his home on the Glasgow-Flippin road near Bristletown Saturday afternoon at 6:25 o'clock of a heart ailment. He had been in ill health several months. He was 69 years of age and would have been 70 today, Dec. 24.

"He was born in Barren county and had resided her all his life, having engaged in farming. He was one of the most prominent and best known citizens of the county and was a man who commanded the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

"He was a member of the Methodist Church and the community suffers a loss in the passing of this fine Christian character. He was married to Miss Lucy Matthews when a young man. Ten children were born to this union, eight of whom survive. Two daughter Mrs. Lizzie Jones and Miss Lallie B. Hammer preceded him in death.

"Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lucy Hammer; three sons, W. H. Hammer, Dixon, Ill.; Henry Hammer, Danville, Ill.; Clifton Hammer, Glasgow; five daughters, Mrs. Annie Young, Mrs. Jennie Mercer, Mrs. Grace Young and Mrs. Lera Cooksey, all of Glasgow and Mrs. Jack Hinton, of Danville, Ill; two sisters, Mrs. B. Bailey, Oleoak section, and Mrs. Dela Francis, Glasgow. Ten grandchildren and one great grandson also survive.

"Funeral services were held Monday, 1:30 p.m. at the Hammer the Rev. Atnip in charge. Burial was in the Glasgow cemetery."
