Musician. A rhythm guitarist, he was a founding member of the 1960s folk-rock music group "Spanky and Our Gang". Born Fredy Ray Pickering, he first performed professionally with the group "The Folksters", with whom he appeared on a 1962 episode of "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson". By the mid-1960s he was playing in a Chicago-area band with Kenny Hodges and Elaine "Spanky" McFarlane, which evolved into Spanky and Our Gang. Following their signing with the Mercury record label, they scored of three Top 10 hits with "Sunday Will Never Be The Same" (1967), "Lazy Day" (1967) and "Like To Get To Know You" (1968). The group disbanded following the death of member Malcolm Hale in 1968, leaving Pickering to pursue an acting career.
