Donnie Monds Ashley, 82, of 715 Sandy Ridge Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 in Skilled Nursing Facility of Chowan Hospital, Edenton. Mrs. Ashley was born in Perquimans County and was the daughter of the late Samuel and Maggie Turner Monds. A homemaker, she attended Center Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raleigh Ashley Sr.; sisters, Blanche Dail and Josephine Turner; a brother, Sammie Monds; a grandson, Richard E. Ashley Sr.; and two half-brothers, Herman and Walter Monds. Surviving are her daughters, Faye Twine and husband Grady, Carrie Hope Twine and husband, Roger, all of Tyner, Maybelle White and husband, Horace, and Nellie Harrell and husband, Leon, all of Hertford; three sons, Gerald Ashley and wife, Susie, Raleigh E. Ashley Jr. and wife, Phyllis, and Roy Lee Ashley and wife, Julia, all of Edenton; a brother, John Lloyd Monds of Elizabeth City; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by Pastor James Carroll Bunch Jr. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery, Hertford. Friends may join the family today from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at the home of Grady and Faye Twine, 721 Sandy Ridge Road, Tyner.
