Irene Eleanor (Shelquist) Tveitbakk, 87, of Clearbrook, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at MeritCare in Fargo.

The funeral will be held on at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Good Shepherd Church in Clearbrook. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery in Clearbrook. The Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.

She was born Feb. 8, 1920, to Maurice and Christine (Crosby) Shelquist. She was raised on a farm north east of Clearbrook and attended Leon School through the eighth grade. She married John Tveitbakk Sept. 12, 1942.

The couple moved to Bremerton, Wash., during the time her husband was in the service and she worked at the Paulsbo Factory. After the war, they moved to Grand Forks in 1946 and lived there for 37 years. She worked at various jobs, and spent 27 years working at the Norby's Department Store as head of the children's department.

After she and her husband retired in 1983, they moved to Clearbrook. She was active in her retirement by transporting people for Social Services and the Disabled American Veterans. She also delivered meals to seniors in Debs for eight years. She and her husband had a special friend, Joshua Tollefson.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth Sandland of Minot, N.D.; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; many nieces and nephews; two cousins; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Ernest, Clarence and Elmer; and sisters, Helen Nelson and Esther Johnson.
