He was mustered out August 23, 1864 at the end of his term of service. Rank: Private. He relocated to St. Paul, Minnesota by 1900 where he applied for a soldier's invalid pension, May 18, 1907, which was issued as Certificate #1,363,877, in Minnesota. His wife, Kate H. Adams, applied for a widow's pension, May 6, 1909, which was issued as Certificate #682,337, also in Minnesota. James's name is on Panel #20 in the Cuyahoga County Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, Public Square, Cleveland, Ohio.
