In the early afternoon of April 14, 2011, Phil Tidwell passed gently from this world.

Harvey Philip "Phil" Tidwell Jr. was born October 20, 1947 in Bibb County, Georgia.

He was the son of Harvey Philip Tidwell Sr. and Annie Ruth Crawford Tidwell.

He served in the Third Armored Division of The United States Army in Frankfort, Germany between 1971 and 1973.

Both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees were attained at The University of West Georgia.

Phil taught World History at Central High School and at Newnan High School.

In addition to his parents, Phil is survived by his wife, Patricia Collins Tidwell; his sons, William Austin Tidwell and Philip Akom Tidwell; his sister, Kathy Madden (Jim) of Sharpsburg, and his brother, John Tidwell of Raymond.

In-laws include Doug and Norma Collins of Headland, AL, and Tom and Terri Collins of Decatur, AL.

Nieces and nephews are Alex and Hailey Madden of Trion, GA, Joseph and Tracie McPhillips of Hartselle, AL, Tricia Collins and Taylor Collins of Decatur, AL and Jason and Shea Peters and their daughters, Emily and Maykala of Dothan, AL.

A memorial service honoring Phil's life was on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 2:00 pm in the McKoon Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Winston Skinner officiating.
