James Allen Rivers, Sr. was born in Spalding Co.,Ga. in the town of Griffin. He and "Fannie" were each 20 when they married. They soon moved to Dublin, Laurens Co., Ga. where they raised 9 children. It wasn't easy at the turn of the century to keep a large family fed and clothed with a roof over their heads, but he and "Fannie" managed to do just that. Unfortunately, diabetes took his eyesight and shortened his life. I regret never meeting my Great Grandfather "Maudie", but the stories I've heard make him very real to me. He made the best out of a difficult time, raised a family to be proud of, and a wife with the same values as his.
