Mrs. Jennie Davis Cage, relict of the late Capt. Jas. D. Cage, died at her home on Percy's Creek on Thursday of last week at noon after an illness of several weeks. Her remains were brought here and interred in Evergreen Cemetery on Friday morning, the services being conducted from the Methodist church by the pastor, Rev. H. G. Hawkins.
The deceased was born on Percy's Creek on May 17th, 1851, and lived in that neighborhood all of her life. She married Capt. Jas. D. Cage, a gallant hero of the Civil War, on December 24th, 1868, and to this union nine children were born, four of whom survive: Mr. M. D. Cage, of Batchelor, La.; Mr. C. Wall Cage, of New Roads, La.; Mr. Nolan S. Cage and Mrs. Florida Ford, Jr., of Lessley. She is also survived by two brothers, Mr. C. W. Davis, of this county and Mrs. R. D. Davis, of Vinton, La.
At an early age she enlisted in the work of her Maker as a member of the Methodist church and throughout her life she followed closely His teachings by precept and example. Her Christian life was beautiful from its beginning to its close, and through all the vicissitudes and sorrows that she met in the way, her faith in God nevar wavered. It was in her own home where the charm of her personality was most pronounced. None ever entered that home without a warm and hearty welcome, as this writer can testify, and the genuineness of her hospitality was very characteristic of the people of her ancestry. Her unselfish devotion to her husband and children was most beautiful and the impress that she left upon those lives will ever remain fresh in their memory as long as life lasts. Hers was a long and useful life, one given up to doing for others, and while we extend heartfelt sympathy to the loved ones she has left behind, we would remind them of the fact that she has now gone to meet her reward in Heaven.
