Born in Merced to a dairy farming family, he was a natural athlete, playing many sports until graduating from high school in 1948. He was drafted into the Marine Corps during the Korean War and was forever after proud of his service to his country. In 1966, he and his parents moved to San Jose, where he worked at Ford Motor Company until he retired.
His parents Tony and Edith Azevedo and his many aunts and uncles who passed before him welcome him. Meanwhile, he leaves behind his dear sisters Jacqueline Borelli of Dos Palos, and Edith Pricolo, his tireless caregiver, of San Jose and the admiring families of his nieces and nephews: Chuck and Bunny Borelli of Yuba City, Mary Rose and Mike Stebens, Edward and Carmen Borelli, and Judie Borelli, all of Los Banos and Nicholas and Janaira Borelli of Idaho; Dennis and Cindy Pricolo of Aurora, Colorado, Dina and Ballan Campeau of Morgan Hill, Danette and Amir Mashkoori of Los Gatos and Damien and Tina Pricolo of San Jose.
Sonny was synonymous with family. He shared with all his love and skill of sports, particularly boxing, but, boy, was he a diehard Raiders fan! He enjoyed his many cousins, embraced his nieces and nephews as his own, and was an important father figure to his great nephew Matthew Borelli, and to the many east side youth he coached in the PAL soccer league. Always dependable and true, he was the family's rock on whom we all could rely.
Vigil and Rosary is scheduled for Sunday, June 27th at Oak Hill Cemetery, 300 Curtner Ave., San Jose, Chapel of Roses, 6:00pm.
