James A. "Jim" Rogers Sr., age 74, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at HospiceCare surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer.

Jim was born on June 24, 1936, in Viroqua, the son of Franklin and Rena (Smith) Rogers. On Oct. 27, 1956, he was united in marriage with Shirley Kreger in Sun Prairie. They enjoyed more than 50 years of marriage until her death in 2007. Jim was a longtime Sun Prairie resident before moving to DeForest in 2003. For 30 years he worked at Goodyear Tire, retiring in 1999.

Jim was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a member of the North Bristol Sportsman Club, North American Fishing Club, North American Hunting Club, NRA, WI Gun Owners and the Second Amendment Foundation. He also found enjoyment in woodworking.

Jim is survived by his children, Debra (Ken) Zickert of Cambridge, Donna (Steve) Sankbeil of Stoughton, Dianne (Steve) Grinde of Cottage Grove, James (fiancee, Martha) Rogers Jr. of Marshall, and Denise (Ron) Kephart of Wyocena; grandchildren, Brian (fiancee, Rose) Zickert, Kristine (Justin) Schutte, Joshua Sankbeil, Kevin Sankbeil, Jennifer (Ben) Vasquez, Christopher Grinde, Grant Rogers and Kelsey Rogers; sisters, Lena (Cal) Wallace of Bell Center, Doris (Danny) Muller of Carthage, Ill., and Edith Marie Schumate of Reidstown; and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2011, at PEACE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 232 Windsor St., Sun Prairie with Pastor Gregory Lyon officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, Sun Prairie from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in Sun Prairie Memory Gardens.
