Halbert John (Hub) Hanson, 96, originally from Dallas, Wis., died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, following a long illness.

He lived most of his adult life in Ridgeland and Chetek and Rolette, N.D. He had been a resident of the Signet Health Care Center at


Prescott for the past eight years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Amy Dorothea (Johnson) Hanson; his parents; brothers, Joseph, Arthur, Marvin, Edwin, and Freeman; and sisters, Mabel (Ludvig) Olson and Geneva (Bob) Owen.

He was born Oct. 1, 1905, on a farm near Dallas to the late John A. and Clara (Week) Hanson. He was a graduate of Dallas and Barron public schools and Mankato Commercial College. He worked in banking at Barron and Ridgeland and Rolette, N.D., for 37 years. He was the managing officer of the Farmers State Bank in Ridgeland for ten years. He was also a partner with his brother-in-law, Ludvig Olson, in the Chetek Auto & Implement Co. for seven years beginning in 1946. He retired from the Rolette State Bank in 1970. He and his wife moved to Chetek in 1980.

Throughout his life he was active in the Lutheran church and various civic organizations in the communities where he lived. Halbert and Amy were one of the founding couples of the Lutheran church in Ridgeland. He was an avid sportsman and actively hunted and fished until late in his life.

Surviving are daughters, Carla Joyce (Allen) DuBois of Cottage Grove, Minn., and Bonita Amy Smith of South St. Paul, Minn.; one son, Harlan Denis (Shirley) Hanson of Pennsville, N.J.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Chetek Lutheran Church. Friends may call for one hour preceding the service. Burial will be at the Dallas Cemetery.
