Last Saturday afternoon Dr. J. Weir, of this place, assited by Drs. L. J. Weir and C. D. Ryerson, of West York, performed a surgical operation on Mr. R. L. Donham for the relief of his old wound. They opened and dressed a large abcess just above the hip bone, also opened up the old wound and removed a quantity of dead tissue. Mr. Donham is an old soldier and a highly respected citizen. He received a gunshot wound in the right groin, on the 17th day of June 1864, at the battle of Kenesaw Mountain, Ga., since which time he has had an open supperating wound, causing him indescribable pain and suffering, at times, which he has borne with that grit, and bravery characteristic of an old veteran. During the last year he has suffered almost constantly, and his health was failing rapidly. His many friends will be glad to know he stood the operation well, and has not had an unfavorable symptom up to the present date, and that his general health is improving. W. E. C. May 18, 1896.
