In Loving Memory of.. Herbert " Herb " Eugene Porter, II.

You may be gone, no longer living on this earth; but you will live on - in the memories of your family and friends. There will always be a part of you living in me, your brother, sisters and those who knew you and loved you. You will live on because we remember you!

Herbert Eugene Porter II passed away on 3/16/2010 at his home in Austin, Texas.

He was 48 years old at the time of his untimely and unexpected passing, but he graced us all with his presence, even if it was only for a short period of time.

Herbert Eugene Porter II was the eldest of 3 children born to Eugene Porter, Sr. and Dorothy Jeanne Hobson. He is preceded in death by his father, Herbert Porter,Sr. and his grandmother Elizabeth Porter of the Elizabeth Porter Recreation Center here in Marietta Georgia.

Herb leaves behind his son, Prince L. Porter, a granddaughter, Ta'Naysia K. Porter, a sister, Aleta R. Porter, a mother, Dorothy J. Pamplen, a cousin/sister Lynn Jefferson, a brother, Ronald N. Porter and countless family and friends.

Herb attended North Cobb High School, in Acworth, Georgia, where he starred in the classroom as well as in sports. He lettered in basketball and track. While at North Cobb, Herb competed on the 4X4 relay, the 220, the mile relay team and the triple jump. Herb also held the Cobb County triple jump record in track and competed in the Georgia High School Track and Field State finals.

In the summer months while in both high school and college, Herb gave his time and talents back to the community by working as a Head Lifeguard for the Marietta Parks and Recreation department and also the Whitewater amusement Park.

Herb graduated from North Cobb in 1979 and went on to attend the same University as his father had at Troy State University, in Troy, Alabama. At Troy State University, Herb was a member of both the varsity men's basketball team and the Air Force ROTC program. Herb transferred to Covenant College in Tennessee, where he starred in basketball and earned his Bachelor's degree in Business.

After graduating from college he entered the business world, where he excelled and climbed to the top of the corporate ladder, rising and holding position of Senior Vice President. Herb valued the importance of education and continued working his way towards a Master's degree in Business.

Herb moved to Austin, Texas, in 2001 where his job in the insurance industry took him. He lived in Austin, Texas until his untimely passing.

Though he could not see all that cared for him, and loved him dearly, you were never far from his heart, thoughts and prayers. Herb loved the outdoors, he liked to fish, cook for his friends, swim, golf, ride motorcycles, travel, coach youth basketball, and enjoyed sports of all types.

He loved Cobb County and Marietta, Georgia, a place that he missed dearly and spoke highly of and about. He will return back home to us, and will be laid to rest next to his loving grandmother, Elizabeth Porter, and his father, Herbert E. Porter, Sr. at Mountain View Cemetery on Whitlock Avenue in Marietta, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations for a scholarship in Herb's memory. The donation can be made online at: www.cobbschoolsfoundation.org

***** Mommy and me both miss you so much. I wish there was a rewind button in life so we could let love be the shining light that binds us together because in the end that is all that really matters. peace be with you.Xoxo
