LEVY, Robie Alferton - 88, New Ross, died May 30, 2000, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in New Ross, he was a son of the late William and Janet (Hatt) Levy. He was a member of the New Ross United Baptist Church. He was retired from Canexel Hardboard Plant, East River and also worked at Eric Countway's Barrell Factory and for Standard Paving for many years. He owned and operated his own Christmas Tree Farm. He was a real lover of nature, his cattle and oxen. Robie played a very important part in providing information for the book "In Praise of Oxen" published by Terry James and was the focus of the CBC documentary "Country Canada" featuring his oxen and Christmas Tree farm. His love for his home, family, friends and church was very evident in his daily life. He is survived by his wife, the former Hazel Leopold; daughters, Ella Mae Hennigar, Chester Grant; Rhoda Veinot, Wilma Russell, New Ross; son, Harley and his wife Marge for whom he had a special place in his heart; sisters, Dorothy Bates and Jean Bezanson, Windsor; grandsons, Brady Hennigar, Wade and Kimber Levy, Michael Russell; granddaughter, Marnie Levy; great-grandchildren, Robie and William Hennigar and Heidi Steffens. He was predeceased by brothers, Lawson, Atwood, Gordon, Harold, Elwood and Ernest; sister, Effie. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Davis Funeral Home, Chester. The body will be transferred to the New Ross United Baptist Church on Friday for visitation from 1 p.m. until service at 2 p.m., Rev. David Hine officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Ross United Baptist Church or any charity. (Hfx Chronicle Herald of Wed, May 31 2000)
